The offer comes after fog marred the Pier’s Fourth of July fireworks show, reducing visibility of the spectacle that officials had touted as the largest and longest in Navy Pier’s history.
Beginning Wednesday night at 6 p.m., Navy Pier will offer free rides on the Centennial Wheel, with the same offer available on Wednesdays through Labor Day according to officials.
This week, Navy Pier officials revealed how visitors can obtain those free rides, setting up a website where visitors will be required to registerwith an email address to receive free tickets.
Complimentary tickets will be released each Thursday at 10 a.m., and guests can reserve up to four free tickets per registration, according to Navy Pier officials.
“We know many Chicagoans and visitors were disappointed that fog affected visibility during this past weekend’s Independence Day Fireworks,” a spokesperson said. “We hope everyone will join us to enjoy one of the city’s most iconic traditions.”
The free rides on the Centennial Wheel will coincide with Navy Pier’s weekly fireworks show on Wednesday nights, which will continue through the summer.
The attraction also offers free fireworks shows on Saturdays, and it was on Saturday that fog rolled off of Lake Michigan and limited visibility of the display at the Pier.
In a Facebook post after the show, Navy Pier officials said they were “disappointed” the show was impacted by fog, and they offered free rides on the Centennial Wheel on Wednesday nights for the remainder of the summer.
