Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has scripted history. He has officially become the youngest Indian debutant ever. After weeks of anticipation, Team India finally pulled the trigger on the 15-year-old boy, handing him the much-awaited debut cap from the hands of Tilak Varma in the second T20I against England in Manchester.
The lad has been an anomaly. He has destructed everything that has come in his way, dropping an all-time IPL campaign with the Rajasthan Royals (RR). He smashed all the world-class bowlers there, barring Jofra Archer, who was obviously his teammate. Now, he has checked that box as well, having whalloped him for seven runs in just three balls.
Sooryavanshi falls early but not without impact
You might feel bad for Samson but Sooryavanshi is just a different beast. While we were waiting for Archer vs Samson once again, this time we got the fierce pacer going up against a boy who had faced him multiple times in the IPL nets. Sooryavanshi didn’t take the strike right from the start as Abhishek Sharma played out the opening over bowled by Archer.
This is how you announce yourself. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi launches Jofra Archer for his first international six. Watch #ENGvIND 2nd T20I LIVE NOW on Sony Sports Network TV channels. #SonySportsNetwork #MamlaPersonalHai #ExtraaaInnings pic.twitter.com/hhOgk8BBtm
— Sony Sports Network (@SonySportsNetwk) July 4, 2026Then, Sooryavanshi announced himself with a hammering six off the first-ever ball he faced against Archer in a competitive match. Talk about impact. The conditions in Manchester weren’t easy to face quick bowling with. At the same time, the two English quicks, including debutant Josh Tongue, bowled very pacey deliveries. Harry Brook, the English captain, revealed that they had planned something to keep Sooryavanshi quiet.
Quite evidently, that was to bowl short deliveries to him. Archer and Tongue kept following his body but the teenage sensation was ready for it. After hitting the first one, he attempted a pull against a quicker one that went over his shoulder. The intent was there to be seen.
Not surprising at all after what we saw at IPL 2026. Against all world-class bowlers, Sooryavanshi has been quite menacing. He doesn’t play the bowler. He comes out with just one goal and that is to dominate. He might have missed out on his international debut, getting stumped to off-spinner Will Jacks while trying to take him down; we all know that the lad is more than ready to make this sport his own.
