Hurricane Isaias is bearing down on the Gulf Coast and has impacted at least one swim meet this weekend.
The Florida State-hosted Seminole Fall Classic in Tallahassee, Florida, will operate on a modified schedule due to anticipated weather impacts.
Other teams scheduled to compete include Georgia Tech, Iowa State (women), and Purdue. The Florida State men are ranked #24 in the preseason SwimSwam Power Rankings, while Purdue is ranked #22 mostly on the strength of their diving team. The Purdue women are ranked #25, also on the strength of their diving program.
The Friday session, which was scheduled for 7PM Eastern Time, has been moved earlier to 11AM. The meet is expected to continue as schedule at 10AM Eastern Time on Saturday morning.
A pre-meet tailgate party that was scheduled for Friday evening has been canceled.
Hurricane Isaias is currently a Category 1 storm, but is expected to strengthen before making landfall late Friday evening or early Saturday morning. Current projections have it on target to land somewhere between Alabama and the Florida panhandle. While Tallahassee is likely to avoid a direct hit in current projections, it is expected to be hit by severe weather.
Florida State competes in an outdoor pool.
The Florida State main campus will be closed on Friday and classes are canceled, though essential business operations will remain open.
A Florida State soccer game scheduled for Friday morning is unimpacted. A women’s soccer game against North Carolina and a women’s volleyball game against Georgia Tech have ben postponed on Friday.
On Saturday, a baseball and men’s basketball exhibition game have both been canceled, a women’s softball game has been postponed to Sunday, while a women’s lacrosse game will no longer be open to the public.
Friday’s session of the meet will be a Breast Cancer awareness event.
