Bhubaneswar: Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy has constituted more than 35 important House committees for the financial year 2026-27 to strengthen legislative oversight and ensure the smooth functioning of the Assembly.
Among the key panels formed are the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Rules Committee, Committee of Privileges, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Committee on Petitions, and the Library Committee.
The Rules Committee will be headed by Speaker Surama Padhy herself. Its members include senior ministers Mukesh Mahaling and Prithiviraj Harichandan, Government Chief Whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan, and MLAs Pratap Keshari Deb, Tusharkanti Behera, and Sagar Charan Das.
Senior BJP leader and MLA Jayanarayan Mishra has been appointed Chairman of the Committee of Privileges. Other members of the panel include Mukesh Mahaling, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Saroj Kumar Pradhan, Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam, Niranjan Pujari and Prasanna Acharya.
The Speaker has nominated Pramila Mallik, Chief Whip of the BJD Legislature Party, as the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.
Similarly, Irasis Acharya has been named Chairman of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation, while Prasanta Kumar Jagadev will head the Committee on Petitions. Akash Dasnayak has been appointed Chairman of the Library Committee.
Notably, the committee also includes 11 suspended MLAs as members.
