Division II University of Indianapolis has announced that it will move from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). The school will compete in the GLVC for the upcoming academic year before transitioning over to the GMAC in July of 2027.
According to a press release from UIndy, the University did a “comprehensive assessment this spring” after receiving the invitation from the GMAC to consider joining. That assessment was focused on “geography, institutional mission alignment, academic profile, financial health and sustainability, student-athlete support, and competitive positioning.”
“This move reflects a thoughtful evaluation of where we can best support our student-athletes while continuing to uphold the high standards of academic and athletic excellence that have long defined the University of Indianapolis,” said Dr. Tanuja Singh, president of UIndy, in the press release from the school. “We are deeply grateful for our decades of partnership and competition in the GLVC, a conference that has played an important role in our history as a charter member. At the same time, we are excited to begin a new chapter in the G-MAC—one that builds on our proud tradition while creating new opportunities for our student-athletes, coaches, and the Greyhound community.”
UIndy is set to become the first Indiana school in the GMAC, as the current institutions are based in Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.
“Joining the G-MAC is an exciting strategic opportunity that strengthens the future of UIndy Athletics and enhances the experience of our Greyhound student-athletes,” said UIndy Athletic Director Kim Pate in the press release from the University. “This move aligns us with institutions that share our values, reinforces our commitment to academic and athletic excellence, improves geographic alignment, and positions Greyhound Athletics for sustained long-term success. Most importantly, our championship expectations remain unchanged; we will continue to compete for conference titles, NCAA postseason opportunities, and national championships while providing a best-in-class student-athlete experience.”
The Greyhounds finished 4th on the men’s side and 6th on the women’s at the 2026 NCAA Division II Championships last season. Both teams came away victorious at the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships, topping runner-up Drury to sweep the conference championships.
This move also marks a first for UIndy, which was a charter member of the GLVC in 1978 and has won the GLVC All-Sports trophy a record 17 times, including an active streak of 14 years.
