Former Crimson Tide cornerback and first-round draft pick Terrion Arnold was arrested Wednesday night and will face multiple felony charges for robbery and kidnapping.
The arrest came months after Arnold’s name was mentioned in court documents relating to an armed robbery and kidnapping that occurred in Tampa, Florida, in February. Arnold is now facing eight felony counts, which could lead to life in prison.
“No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence, or retaliation. This arrest is the result of months of investigative work and collaboration between the Tampa Police Department and our prosecutors,” said Florida State Attorney Suzy Lopez in a statement. “We will continue to pursue justice for the three victims by holding everyone accountable for their roles in this crime.”
According to Lopez’s statement, Arnold is accused of helping lure three men into an apartment where they were robbed and held at gunpoint. The State Attorney’s office believes Arnold’s motive stemmed from a robbery of his Airbnb property, which he estimated to total more than $200,000.
“Terrion Arnold categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence,” said Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management and Arnold’s representation, in a statement.
Arnold was named an AP First Team All-American for his 2023 season with Alabama and went to the Detroit Lions with the 24th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
“We are aware of the legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold,” the Detroit Lions said in a statement to The Detroit News. “We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”
Arnold’s representation concluded their statement by reaffirming Arnold’s claim of innocence in the case.
“Mr. Arnold looks forward to his day in court and is confident that the judicial process will lead to his ultimate conviction,” White said.
