The two-part season, which has once again been written and directed by Savage and produced by award winning Me+You Productions, stars Coughlan as Helen, with the Bridgerton actor having developed the story with Savage.
The synopsis for I Am Helen says: "Told through a female lens, the story examines the pressures and expectations placed on women while confronting the realities of toxic masculinity and the damage it can create in modern relationships."
Other actors to have taken the lead in episodes of I Am have included Vicky McClure, Samantha Morton, Gemma Chan, Suranne Jones, Letitia Wright and Lesley Manville.
I Am Helen will be the first time in the show's history that one story stretches across two episodes, which are set to air on Channel 4 later this year.
