One of the biggest changes to this year’s Ocean Beach Street Fair is the expansion of the kid-oriented fun zones. The Fun Zone entrances will be marked by large, colorful A-frame balloon displays.“This year we’re trying to be all in for the younger crowd at the street fair, rather than have the area be an offshoot on the side,” said EMS general manager Shawn Walker.While the areas are primarily for children, there are plenty of amenities for parents, including tables and chairs for relaxing and lots of food options suitable for younger, more picky palettes. Tickets for the inflatables are $20 for 30 minutes, or $30 for one hour.New this year is a Family Adventure passport. The free activity allows children to have their “passport” stamped at five locations, then return the completed page to the street fair’s information booth on Newport Avenue for a prize.“The kids run around, and they go get their passports stamped at all three parking lots,” said Kristen Keltner, OBMA Events Manager. “You collect the stamps, and you can get a prize, these cute little stuffed animal parrots or stickers. So, that’s really the fun thing we added this year to get people to move around a little bit more.”Additionally, sports fans of all ages will have a chance to meet San Diego Gulls mascot, Gulliver, as well as have the opportunity to play the Hockey Shot game. Meanwhile, The Rad Hatter will be offering their creative head coverings at the OB Tire Center.This year’s three Family Fun Zone areas will be great spots for youngsters to let off a little steam during their time at the OB Street Fair. “We do a lot of street fairs and events, and this is our favorite. It really feels authentic; the people are happy. It’s reflective of the area’s culture. Everybody just seems so excited to be a part of it, and we are too.”
