Looking back, Hamilton admitted the difficult period triggered genuine concerns about whether age and time had finally caught up with him.
“The [win] in Silverstone in 2024 was in its own way a monumental moment for me, because it’s a moment where I never thought maybe that I’d ever get to win again,” Hamilton told reporters in Barcelona.

The British driver explained that those fears resurfaced during his first year with Ferrari.
“Then after a year like last year, there was definitely moments that I was like, ‘Sheesh, maybe it is true that, you know, when you get to a certain point, you lose it’,” he added.
“But I’ve proven that you don’t. You always have it and it just takes work. It takes perseverance, that constant believing in yourself to tap into your inner self and keep yourself alive.”
Those words carried extra significance in Barcelona, where Hamilton converted renewed momentum into a long-awaited Ferrari victory.
Embracing F1’s new generation
Hamilton’s resurgence has unfolded against a backdrop of Formula 1’s changing landscape. In Monaco, he shared the podium with Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Isack Hadjar, two rising stars whose combined ages are still lower than Hamilton’s.
Yet the veteran insists he remains fully capable of matching the sport’s newest talents.
“I feel great physically. I’m racing with 19-year-olds who are doing amazing, but I feel great.”
The Barcelona win offered further evidence that experience can still rival youth when paired with determination and the right machinery. That machinery, Hamilton believes, is steadily improving.
Ferrari arrived in Spain with a substantial upgrade package that appears to have delivered an immediate performance boost. The developments have impressed Hamilton, who last season challenged the team to become more aggressive and inventive in its approach.

“We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. By no means is this something that’s just going to happen all the time. We’ve got a heavy, heavy, steep mountain to climb up ahead of us to try to do this as Mercedes has all year so far.”
For now, however, Hamilton can savour a moment that seemed far from certain only months ago. After a season spent wrestling with questions about his future and his abilities, the Barcelona winner has found the most convincing answer possible — not through words, but through victory.
