Watching the New York Knicks win the 2026 NBA Finals was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for Timothée Chalamet — and he’s been nominated for multiple Academy Awards.

“Way rather this than the Oscars!” Chalamet, 30, proclaimed in a postgame interview on Saturday, June 13, after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs for the championship title. “Come on, baby! Knicks are champions, baby!”

Chalamet traveled to San Antonio for the fifth game in the series, which the Knicks ultimately won 94-90. (The Knicks won the NBA title series 4-1.) He also celebrated with the basketball team in the locker room later that evening.

“I’m not an athlete, I’m good,” Chalamet tearfully told reporters after the postgame champagne celebration in the locker room. “I’m not an athlete! Usually I have a stunt double do that.”

In addition to his enthusiastic Knicks fandom, the New York native is also a prolific actor and has been nominated for four Oscars. Chalamet has earned recognition in the Best Actor category three times, though lost at each ceremony. As a producer on Marty Supreme, Chalamet also earned a nod when the 2026 ping-pong film was nominated for Best Picture in March.

Chalamet and Marty Supreme lost out to Michael B. Jordan and One Battle After Another, respectively, at the 2026 Oscars earlier this year. While Chalamet’s role in Marty didn’t win at the Academy Awards, he did take home trophies at the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes.

“Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I’m in a category with many greats. … To [director] Josh Safdie, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this role,” Chalamet gushed when he won big at the Globes in January. “Thank you for believing in me. … If you would have told me when I was 19 years old I would thanking Mr. Wonderful from Shark Tank. Alright you’re laughing so I got away with that. Thank you, Kevin. I would have been stunned but very grateful.”

He continued, “My dad instilled a spirit of gratitude in me growing up, ‘Always be grateful for what you have.’ It’s allowed me to leave this ceremony in the past empty handed, my head held high, grateful just to be here, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say those moments didn’t make this moment that much sweeter.”

In addition to thanking his parents, Chalamet dedicated the win to girlfriend Kylie Jenner.

“For my parents, for my partner, I love you,” he concluded his speech. “Thank you so much.”

Chalamet and Jenner, 28, have been together since 2023, often attending awards shows and Knicks games together.
