Paul Aron's Formula 1 journey is set to gather further momentum this weekend after Audi confirmed that the Alpine reserve driver will take part in Friday's opening practice session at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The 22-year-old Estonian will climb into Audi machinery for FP1 at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya as part of an agreement between the German manufacturer and Alpine, giving Aron another valuable opportunity to add to his growing experience in Formula 1 machinery.
With teams required to complete four rookie practice appearances during the season, the Barcelona session provides Audi with an ideal chance to fulfil part of that obligation while also giving one of the paddock's most highly rated young talents additional track time.
Aron's appearance will come at the expense of Nico Hülkenberg, with the experienced German stepping aside for the opening session before returning to the cockpit for the remainder of the weekend.
Back-to-back opportunities await
The Barcelona outing will mark Aron's sixth Formula 1 practice appearance, further strengthening his growing résumé at the highest level of motorsport.
The Estonian is already familiar with the Hinwil-based operation, having made at Silverstone last year his first of two FP1 appearances for the team in 2025 when it competed under the Sauber banner.
Thereafter, he continued to build experience through multiple practice outings with Alpine while carrying out his duties as reserve driver. And Barcelona will not be his only chance to impress.
Audi has also confirmed that Aron will return to the car later this month at the Austrian Grand Prix, where he will participate in another FP1 session.
On that occasion, he will take over from Gabriel Bortoleto, giving him a second opportunity in quick succession to showcase his abilities in a race-weekend environment.

He will not be alone in gaining valuable mileage this weekend. Barcelona's first practice session is set to feature several rookie drivers across the grid as teams fulfil their mandatory running requirements.
Among those scheduled to make appearances are Williams junior Luke Browning, McLaren prospect Leonardo Fornaroli and Cadillac reserve Colton Herta, all of whom will be experiencing an official Formula 1 session for the first time.
