A man from Chicago is facing several felony charges after he was arrested in connection to a deadly rear-end crash into a disabled vehicle on I-90 that killed two people, Illinois State Police announced on Tuesday.

Isaiah Olivas, 27, is facing two counts of aggravated DUI involving death and two counts of aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm after he allegedly crashed into a vehicle that became disabled on I-90, killing two people who were inside the car, ISP said.

The crash occurred around 1:46 a.m. on March 15 on southbound I-90 near Randolph Street after a Hyundai sedan became disabled in the left lane of the expressway, authorities said.

Olivas allegedly rear-ended the Hyundai while driving a Jeep, sending himself and four others to a local hospital with injuries. Two of the people inside the Hyundai who were injured, Rashad Dean and Nadinah Cunnings, were pronounced dead at the hospital.

A large emergency response and investigation could be seen on I-90 after the crash, with lanes on the southbound side closed for nearly six hours, reopening to traffic at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Illinois State Police.

The charges were approved on June 1 “after a thorough investigation by [Illinois State Police] Special Agents,” authorities said. Olivas turned himself in to ISP and remains in custody as of Tuesday evening.
