Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Hudson Newsom, a breaststroker from Colorado, will be joining the United States Coast Guard Academy in the fall after spending the last year at a prep school.

Newsom is from Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he attended Coronado High School for three years. His final year at the school, in May of 2025, he won the boys’ 4A state title in the 100 breaststroke, swimming 54.54 to stop the clock more than two seconds ahead of the field. He also finished 7th in the 50 freestyle after swimming a personal best 21.19 in prelims.

Newsom has swum just two meets in the last 12 months, racing once at the TAC Titans Classic in June of 2025 before being out of the pool until March of this year when he swam at the Georgia Southeastern Meet of Champions for Fusion Swim Team.

At that meet, Newsom set new personal best times in the 50 free, 100 breast, and 200 breast. His 100 breast time of 53.83 finished 2nd in the event. He also picked up a 3rd place finish in the 200 breast (2:01.60) and a 9th place finish in the 50 free (21.06).

The United States Coast Guard Academy is a Division III program that competes in the NEWMAC Conference. At the 2026 meet, both the men’s and women’s teams finished 2nd to MIT with the men scoring 1013 to MIT’s 1481.5.

At the NCAA Championships, they finished 26th with 32 points. All of which were scored by junior Noah Reice.

At the NEWMAC Championships, Newsom’s lifetime bests would have won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, and he would have finished 13th in the 50 free. He also will likely have major relay duties for the team, swimming breaststroke on both medleys and as a member of the 200 freestyle relay.

At the Division III NCAA championships, he would have been 8th in the 100 breast and just outside of scoring (2:01.09) in the 200 breast.

He joins a large class of 2026 at the Coast Guard Academy of Adriel Sun, Ben Hinds, Connor Marshall, Evan Dash, Ryan Moore, and Timothy Large.
