While much of our and the global swimming audience’s attention has been focused this month on Pro Swim Series in Sacramento, the AP London International, and the Mare Nostrum tour, there have been numerous less-visible meets across the country that have produced some eye-watering results, from both age-groupers and college/professional swimmers, including some eye-catching results from the recently returned Nic Fink.
ABSC IMX Series
May 29-31, 2026 UGA Ramsey Center, Athens, GA Long Course Meters (50 meter) Results on Meet Mobile: “2026 ABSC IMX Knockout Series”We reported that Nic Fink returned to competition three weeks ago at the GA Long Course Kickoff in Atlanta, his first recorded results since the 2024 Paris Olympics where he won three medals, including an individual silver in the 100 breaststroke, tying with Great Britain’s Adam Peaty.
Three weeks ago, Fink swam the 50 breaststroke, hitting the wall in 27.73, but in the intervening fortnight, the former US record holder in the event has cut nearly a full second off that mark, recording two separate swims under 27.10. Swimming in a unique knock-out style over six rounds, Fink, who owns a lifetime best of 26.45, posted results of 27.01 in the prelims and 27.04 in the finals.
The times, new season-bests for the American launch him into the World’s top 25, ranking him 21st fastest this season and 4th among Americans, sitting behind only Van Mathias, who broke Fink’s American record at the Bergen Swim Festival in April, and Alexei Avakov and Michael Andrew, both of who dipped under 27 earlier in May.

He wasn’t the lone Georgia based swimmers to contest the meet as Ruard Van Renen, and Elliot Woodburn both put-up impressive swims. Van Renen, the 2026 NCAA runner-up in the 100 backstroke, won the 50 back in a time of 25.05, beathing fellow Bulldog, Woodburn, by just under a second (.99). The time doesn’t crack the world’s top 25 this season, but the South African has already been faster this season, swimming a PB of 24.92 at the South African National Championships.
Woodburn in addition to his runner-up finish in the 50 back, took 2nd to Fink in the 50 breast, going 28.04 in the final. Woodburn, a native of Great Britain, beat fink in the semifinals, but was unable to match Fink’s turn of speed in the final.
A two-time NCAA finalist for the Bulldogs, Kennedi Dobson opted for a sprint heavy schedule, taking on the 50s of free, fly and back as well as all four 100s. The World Junior bronze medalist in the 400 free, won both backstroke events she contested, hitting the wall in the 50 at 29.21, a new PB. While in the 100 she was a little off her best, stopping the clock at 1:02.31. The weekend before, in Sacramento at the Pros Swim Series, Dobson won the 800 free and 400 IM in new personal bests, as well as taking 2nd in the 200 free in a new PB of 1:57.38.
2026 Jack Pettinger Invitational
May 29-31, 2026 Soderholm Family Pool, Nicholas Recreation Center, Madison, WI Long Course Meters (50 meter) ResultsOver the same weekend across the country in Wisconsin, Maggie Wanezek and Phoebe Bacon were throwing down some impressive mid-season times, as was Caleb Goodavish, who became one of the fastest 12-year olds ever.
Wanezek, a native of Wisconsin, and the recent NCAA runner-up in both the 100 and 200 backstroke, won each of those events, albeit in meters this weekend, posting times of 59.39 and 2:10.95 respectively. While neither time is a personal best for the 20-year-old, they are season bests and are much faster than her times from last summer’s National Championships, where she went 1:00.37 in the 100 and 2:13.81 in the 200 back.
In addition to being new season bests, her 100 back time of 59.39 jumps her well into the top 25 in the World this season, ranking her 10th in the world this season, while her 200 time sits just outside of the top 25.

Of those five ahead of her, Stadden like Wanezek were not named to the Pan-Pac roster so look for the pair of them to clash at this summer’s Nationals.
The Badger did jump ahead of training partner Bacon in the 100 back rankings, as Bacon was 15th with her 59.65 from Decemeber’s US Open, but Bacon looks to be honing in her focus on the 200 IM, an event which she will race at Pan-Pacs. A two-time Olympic finalist in the 200 back, Bacon has added the 200 IM to her slate of events, and last summer made the Worlds team in the event. This past weekend, Bacon won the event in 2:12.31, after going 2:14.82 in prelims. While neither result breaks the top 25, like in the 100 back, Bacon has already been faster this season, currently ranking 13th in the world with her 2:10.22 from the US Open.
While both Wanezek and Bacon are in the hunt for spots on the national roster next year and for the Olympics in 2028, it’ll likely be a few years for the 12-year-old Caleb Goodavish. Goodavish didn’t break into any of the World’s Top 25, but did jump into the top 100 in the 11-12 National Age Group Rankings for every event he swam.
