Ohio high school state champion Grantham Trumpower has announced his commitment to swim for Indiana University at Indianapolis beginning in the fall of 2026.
“Super excited to call the incredible IU Natatorium my new swim home. The university is beautiful and Indianapolis is such a great city! I am extremely excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Indiana University-Indianapolis! First and foremost, I would like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for being with me during my career and teaching me so much through the sport. I’d also like to thank my mom/Coach Brooke, Coach Debby, and Coach Evan for always encouraging me. A special thank you to Coach Zietlow, Coach Damion, and Coach Dibley for this amazing opportunity. Trumpower recently graduated from Ontario High School, where he competed for the school’s varsity swimming and diving team all four years. In addition to swimming for Ontario, he trains year-round with Rocket Swim Club, primarily specializing in sprint free and fly.
Trumpower qualified for the OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) Division II State Championship each year of his high school career, with his top performances coming at the 2026 iteration this past season. At the competition in February, he took 2nd in the 50 free (20.42) and 3rd in the 100 free (45.54), setting new lifetime best times in both events, and was a part of the runner-up team in the 200 medley relay. He also helped his team to a championship title in the 200 free relay, splitting 19.64 as the anchor to propel the team to a state tournament record time of 1:24.32 and mark the Warriors first-ever state title in program history.
Trumpower walked away from the 2026 OHSAA Division II State Championship with four new state medals, bringing the total tally for his career to 11 and securing his stance as one of the most decorated swimmers in Ontario High School history. Over his four years with the team, Trumpower delivered 36 record-breaking performances, and his final season saw him earn All-American consideration in the 50 free, 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.
A few weeks after the state championships, Trumpower turned in a series of fast swims at the Ohio Tim Meyers SC Senior Champs in March. He placed 6th in the 50 free (20.43), 7th in the 200 free (1:41.00 – PB), 8th in the 100 free (45.27 – PB) and 14th in the 50 fly (22.91 – PB). He also finished 30th in the 100 fly (53.39) after logging a personal best time of 51.43 during prelims and contested the 100 back (54.64 – SB).

50 free – 20.42 100 free – 45.27 200 free – 1:41.00 100 fly – 51.43A Division I Mid-Major program, IU Indy is part of the Horizon League, with the men’s team taking the runner-up spot at this past season’s conference championships. The Jaguars sent three athletes on to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championships, where they finished 40th overall.
To earn a second swim at the 2026 Horizon League Championships, it took times of 20.40/45.24/1:40.11 in the 50/100/200 free and 49.35 in the 100 fly, putting Trumpower right on the cusp of landing in the finals in some of his top events. On the team itself, Trumpower is poised to rank 6th in the 50 free, 7th in the 100 free and 200 free, bringing added depth to the roster, although that does not account for the other incoming freshmen.
Trumpower grew up running cross country and track alongside swimming. The fourth of eight children, he will be following in the footsteps of his older siblings as a collegiate athlete. His oldest sister, Carolina, ran cross country and track at Asbury University, his sister Brienne swims for the University of Akron and his younger sister Mirielle has already verbally committed to Liberty University for fall 2027. Meanwhile, Trumpower’s mom, Brooke, is the head coach of Ontario High School’s swimming program and is part of the Rocket Swim Club staff.
“I’ve had the pleasure of swimming at the famous IU Natatorium many times in my career and have always thought it would be exciting to swim for the Jaguars someday,” Trumpower said. “The program has incredible sprinters and I’m looking forward to training with them. Coach Dennis and his staff are great, and I am confident that I can reach my personal goals while serving as an asset to the team. What an amazing opportunity!”
Set to join Trumpower in the pool in Indianapolis in the fall are Gavin Tran, Ian Malone, Colton Poe and Logan Poswinski, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years together.
