San Diego Mesa College held the 45th Annual Golden Scissors Award Show on May 22 in the quad at Mesa College. The evening began with a reception catered by Mesa College’s culinary department. A showcase displaying student projects was set up for the guests to enjoy. While viewing the showcase, guests were entertained by student musicians from the college’s music department.The theme for the evening was “in between,” examining the transformation of these emerging fashion designers who will help define the future of fashion. Ashanti T. Hands, president of Mesa College, welcomed the audience. Lyndsey Cook, Professor and Co-Chair of the Fashion Department, also greeted the crowd. The emcees for the evening were Giovanni Trimble and Aylen Silveira.The show opened with student design winners from High Tech High. The remainder of the evening featured collections from students in the Advanced Fashion Design class led by Professor Kathie Taylor. Each student created and presented an original collection with its own unique name and concept.
The winners for the evening were:
First Place: Brooke Jones, who received a two-night stay package donated by Viejas Casino & Resort, including $100 dining credit & $100 spa credit ($1,400 value). The winner was Indigo by Noelle by Brooke Jones, who received $50 in gift cards donated by True Vet Solutions AND a Visions Museum of Textile Art Tote they can fill with fabric, a $20 store credit and a one-year membership to the Visions Museum of Textile Art.The Mesa Fashion Program offers a wide range of degrees and certificates in fashion design and fashion merchandising.
