An attempted break-in at Chicago’s iconic Manny’s Deli overnight left windows to the restaurant shattered, with police investigating after suspects fled the scene.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident took place about 3 a.m., with two people exiting a white sedan and approaching the famous deli, located in the 1000 block of S. Jefferson St.
One of the suspects broke the front glass window, police said, but was unsuccessful in taking anything inside. The two then fled the scene in same car they arrived in and headed southbound, police said.
An 8:45 a.m. social media post from the restaurant said staff was onsite during the attempted break-in, and that the suspect ran off.
“Most importantly, we are ok, nobody was hurt,” the post said, with photos showing the broken window and shattered glass across the restaurant floor.
Photos and video from the scene in the daylight hours Tuesday showed the window boarded up. According to the post, the restaurant was open for business starting at its normal hours.
No one was in custody, CPD said, and police were investigating.
