Law enforcement responded to the Bally’s casino along East Front Street at around 11:45 pm CDT. Arriving officers reported finding an unresponsive man near a vehicle within the parking garage. First responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital, who was later pronounced deceased.
Police spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina briefed the media that a preliminary investigation determined that the victim was part of a group that encountered several people in the parking structure. The two groups exchanged words, which led to an escalation and shots being fired. One of the shots struck the victim. The groups quickly dispersed and fled the scene.
Police believe the incident to be isolated. Becchina encourages anyone with information to call 816-474-TIPS (8477). Anonymous tips are allowed and eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.
Second Bally’s Casino Shooting This Year
It was only February that the Bally’s Kansas City Casino parking area was the site of another deadly shooting.
As Casino.org reported, an 18-year-old male was shot and killed outside the Bally’s Casino, though the shooting occurred on a paved surface lot and not the garage structure.
Police detailed that a scuffle inside the casino continued once it was moved outside to the property lot. The deceased man was later identified as Aundre Harris Jr. A suspect in the shooting was taken into custody on the scene.
Since casinos are reserved for 21+, it’s unknown why and how Harris was inside the Bally’s Casino when the initial fight began. The case is ongoing, and police have not yet brought charges against the suspect who was detained.
Kansas City Crime
Last night’s homicide at Bally’s Kansas City was one of two overnight murders in the city. Police also responded to a deadly shooting in the area of South 37 Street this morning, around 5 am, where a person lying in the road was found dead on arrival.
Police only identified the deceased as an “adult man.” A person of interest has been taken into custody.
Overall crime rates have been trending down in Kansas City, but the city remains battling a violent crime epidemic.
While Missouri’s largest city saw homicides lower by 5% in 2025, there were still 183 murders. Kansas City remained home to one of the highest homicide per-capita rates in the country.
With approximately 25 homicides per 100,000 people, Kansas City ranks eighth in homicide rate among large cities. Only New Orleans (46 homicides per 100K), Memphis (41), St. Louis (38), Baltimore (36), Washington, DC (36), Birmingham (28), and Philadelphia (26) have higher homicide rates.
