For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
California high school state runner-up Emma Sloan has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Brown University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process to continue my academic and swimming career at Brown University! I want to thank my friends and family for always supporting me and cheering me on! Also, I would like to thank my coaches and teammates at Orinda Aquatics for supporting me and always pushing me to be my best. I am so grateful to Coach Mitch and Coach Niko for giving me this amazing opportunity, and I can’t wait to be a part of this team with these girls! Go Bruno!!
A junior at Campolindo High School in California, Sloan has competed for the school’s swimming and diving team since her freshman year. She also currently trains year-round with Orinda Aquatics, where she primarily specializes in butterfly and IM but is adept at all stroke disciplines.
Over the course of the 2025-26 short course season, Sloan dropped eight seconds in the 400 IM, five and a half seconds in the 200 free, five seconds in the 200 IM, four seconds in the 200 fly and 200 back, three seconds in the 100 back, two seconds in the 100 free, and a second and a half in the 100 fly.
She recorded the following personal best times across two club meets in February, the Juanita Allington Memorial Meet and Speedo Sectionals in Roseville:
100 Butterfly: 54.49 200 Butterfly: 2:00.04 200 IM: 2:02.79 400 IM: 4:24.19 100 Freestyle: 51.34 200 Freestyle: 1:51.54 100 Backstroke: 55.79 200 Backstroke: 2:05.52On the high school scene, Sloan has represented Campolindo at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Championships the past two years, and earlier this month had her best-ever showing after qualifying for individual events for the first time. She reached the ‘A’ final of the 100 fly (54.78) and finished seventh and touched 12th in the 200 IM (2:03.30). On relays, she contributed a 51.22 split to the 400 free relay team that secured silver and a 24.75 fly split on the 200 medley relay that finished seventh overall.
A Division I program, Brown competes in the Ivy League Conference, with the women’s team taking fourth out of eight teams at the conference championships in February. Sloan’s current lifetime bests would have qualified for the ‘B’ finals in the 100/200 fly and ‘C’ finals in the 200/400 IM and 100 back, setting her up to be an immediate contributor with still two seasons of training ahead before her first conference meet.
Sloan joins Sunny Kang, Caroline Rogers, Annri Katoh, and Hannah Oh in committing to the Brunos’ class of 2031 so far.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
