Thank you!A hands-on look at SUPCLEAN’s floating robotic skimmer and how it performs in real-world pool conditions.
While I love having a pool, I’m not a huge fan of the cleaning part of it. Using the pool net to scrape the surface of the pool every day too keep leaves and other debris from settling is not my idea of a fun time. In the past year, I’ve been slowly collecting automated devices that help with everyday activities like this. This is why I’m thrilled to add the SUPCLEAN SolarSurfer S5 Solar Pool Skimmer Robot to my stable of pools maintenance tools.
About SUPCLEAN SolarSurfer S5 Solar Pool Skimmer Robot
The SUPCLEAN SolarSurfer S5 Solar Pool Skimmer Robot is designed to simplify daily pool maintenance by automatically collecting floating debris before it sinks to the bottom of the pool. Using solar charging technology and a cordless floating design, the robot skims leaves, bugs, pollen, and other surface debris from both above-ground and inground pools. It also includes app support for monitoring and control, offering a more hands-off approach to keeping pool water clean throughout the swimming season.

User Experience
I have to admit that I’m always a little hesitant to work with automated robots like this because I never know how much set up is required. Sometimes things need assembly that is complicated, but that didn’t happen with the SolarSurfer S5. The robot was ready to go out of the box. There was no assembly needed and other than making sure it had a charge and Bluetooth/WiFi connection, I didn’t have to do anything to get it started.
There is a switch on the back of the robot that you turn on and then you connect it to your app. Once you’ve established a connection, you place it in the water and turn on “automatic cleaning.” Since the robot is solar powered, you shouldn’t need to physically charge it unless you have several days of cloudy weather.
When we got the skimmer installed, our pool had only been opened for about a day. The cooler winter weather stuck around much longer than anticipated this year so we had a late start with our pool opening. After the water reached the proper fill line and we could kick on the pump/filter, we put the skimmer in the water. Thanks to our winter cover, the amount of scum in the water was minimal.
We did have to scoop out some leaves from the bottom, but once that was completed, we set the skimmer to work. It does only clean surface debris, but it does a great job picking that stuff up. After it had been running for an hour or so, we noticed a big difference. We emptied the basket and cleared out the algae, then set it to work again. It’s been running for about a week now and hasn’t had any issues. Thanks to the solar panel, we haven’t had to charge it with a cable once since it’s been running. The solar charging does depend on weather conditions, but so far, we’ve been lucky that there has been enough sunlight to keep it charged.
The skimmer has been running continuously since we dropped it in the pool. We haven’t had to do any additional cleanup as it had kept up with the surface cleaning really well. I’ve checked the basket a few times, but it hasn’t been ‘full’ to the point of giving off the empty basket warning. Emptying it is easy. If anything sticks to the sides, I just hose it off and then put it back into the robot.
The only downside to the skimmer is that it communicates to the app via Bluetooth. That means, that I have to be outside in order to get a report from it. The app is somewhat limited on operations, but it does allow you to monitor battery life and turn it on an off.
Conclusion
The SUPCLEAN SolarSurfer S5 delivers exactly what it sets out to do: reduce the daily hassle of surface skimming. It is not designed to replace a pool vacuum or filter/pump, but it will work very well as a part of your overall pool maintenance system. It is easy to set up, runs independently once placed in the pool, and does a solid job keeping floating debris under control, helping cut down on one of the most repetitive chores of pool ownership.
