UNC finished second out of 12 teams in the NCAA Women’s Golf Chapel Hill Regional at Finley Golf Club this week, punching its ticket to the NCAA Championship in California later this month.

The Tar Heels, the No. 2 seed in the regional and the No. 12 team in the country, finished 6-over par after three rounds of play, 11 strokes behind first-place Texas (5-under) and two strokes ahead of third-place Oklahoma State (8-over). Michigan State and Virginia also qualified for the championship as top five finishers in the regional. Sophomore Marie Prats-Rigual was UNC’s highest finisher, ending her regional at even par after a 2-under final round which saw her make two eagles.
UNC is one of 30 teams to advance to the NCAA Championship, which begins Friday, May 22 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, CA. UNC has now qualified for the NCAA Championship for the second time in the last three seasons under head coach Aimee Neff; prior to that, the Tar Heels had not competed in the NCAA Championship since 2017.
