A bonded chihuahua mix and German shepherd whose unexpected relationship went viral at a Chicago shelter appear to be heading to their forever home — together, of course.
“Not long ago, they were found near a Chicago rail line with only each other to lean on. Now, their pack has grown from 2 to 6,” the Anti-Cruelty Society wrote in a social media update Friday.
Bird, the chihuahua short coat and pug mix, and Dee, the German shepherd, went viral this week after they were found together near a Chicago rail line and seemed to have formed an incredible connection.
“What they went through built a bond that didn’t break when help finally arrived. Now they’re looking for a home that will keep that bond intact, because they’ve already chosen each other,” the Anti-Cruelty Society wrote at the time.
Images show Bird curled on top of or next to Dee “like she’s claimed him as her safe place.”
The group had been looking for a home that would take the unlikely pair together.
And on Thursday, they were both adopted by a “loving family” of four.
“Saying goodbye to Bird and Dee last night was emotional for our team, but seeing this bonded pair leave together, headed home with a loving family, was EVERYTHING we hoped for,” the Anti-Cruelty Society wrote. “From a rail yard to a home. Together the entire way.”
