Liam Mac Colla has flipped his commitment to Virginia after previously committing to Division III Williams College and then flipping to Villanova earlier this year. Mac Colla will now flip his commitment again, this time to join the Cavaliers.
Mac Colla most recently competed at Sectionals in St Mary’s City at the end of March. There he swam to wins in the 50 and 100 freestyles as he was 0.11 off his best in the 50 free with a 20.12 and 0.78 off his best in the 100 free with a 44.88.

The 6’5″ senior will graduate from Stuyvesant High School this spring and has shown strong improvements this season.
The Virginia men finished 7th at the 2026 ACC Championships and went on to finish 9th at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Freshmen Maximus Williamson and Thomas Heilman led the way. It took a 19.46 50 free, 42.67 100 free, and a 46.43 100 fly to make it back at ACCs for a night swim.
Mac Colla will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Gerhardt Hoover, Ian Heysen Ricci, Nathan Carr, Micah Davis, and Blake Amlicke.
Although the two schools have a connection with Virginia head coach Todd DeSorbo‘s brother in law Rick Simpson being the head coach at Villanova, this is the first time that the two have seen a flipped commitment between the two.
