A Jewish mother has said “this year has been by far the worst” to live in Golders Green after a double stabbing marked the latest in a string of antisemitic attacks in the area.
Police said the two men, aged 76 and 34, were treated at the scene for stab wounds and taken to hospital in a stable condition after the attack, which has been declared a terrorist incident.
One of the men was attacked outside local shops, while another was targeted on a side road outside Hagers Shul, a local synagogue, shortly after 11am on Wednesday.
A 45-year-old man has been arrested and police say he has a history of serious violence and mental health problems.
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis has identified the stabbing victims as Nachman Moshe ben Chaya Sarah and Moshe Ben Baila in a post on X.
“Please join me in praying for a swift and complete recovery for the victims of today’s attack,” he says
The i Paper has been told that pupils were put on lockdown around the local area and told to leave different ways to reduce security risks.

Witnesses told The i Paper they saw a man running along Golders Green Road armed with a knife.
Maya Goldman, 58, from Golders Green, told The i Paper: “It’s a sickening incident. I rushed down the road as soon as I heard about it.”
The mother-of-two, added: “It was a disgusting antisemitic incident. I’ve spoken to many people this morning and they are afraid for their safety, including myself.
“I’ve lived in Golders Green for 20 years and this year has been by far the worst time to live here, especially after the ambulanc
es being set on fire a few weeks ago.
“I would consider moving to Israel if things continue the way they are. We need concrete action from politicians, not rhetoric.”
Another 53-year-old Jewish woman, who lives on an adjacent street with her two children and husband, said: “I was doing some shopping and immediately saw this man being chased by a guy with a knife.
“I was terrified and ran home as fast as possible. I fear this isn’t the last time something like will happen.”

Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media appear to show two police officers facing down the knife man in the middle of the road, using a Taser and kicking him repeatedly in the head.
Steven Bak, a trustee of the neighbourhood watch group Shomrim North West, said his colleague Ben Grossnass, a volunteer in the organisation’s emergency response unit, was first on the scene, and told The i Paper that the incident was “expected” in light of recent antisemitic arson attacks.
Deborah Miller, a mother of four who runs a retail store on Golders Green Road, said: “We were working in the store and the messages came through [about the stabbings].”
“It happened in the middle of the day when there are mums with pushchairs around. It’s dangerous and we don’t feel protected.
“We just have no idea what’s around the corner.”
Deborah Miller spoke out about the attacks (Photo: Rich Percival)The stabbings are is the latest in the series of anti-Semitic incidents in Golders Green, a predominantly Jewish neighbourhood, in recent weeks, including a firebomb attack on four ambulances belonging to a volunteer group.
Locals living near the site said they are concerned about their safety in the local area.
Yosef Beck, 34, who lives about 200 yards away from where the men were stabbed, said: “It’s shocking. We’re quite a resilient community but now the feeling is that this neighbourhood is just not safe anymore.
“I think everyone who is Jewish simply has a target on their back, especially if they wear a kippah in public. Maybe it’s time to move to Israel.”
Another eyewitness told The i Paper: “It was quite sudden and very scary to watch.”
Sir Keir Starmer held a Cobra meeting in aftermath of the attack and described what happened as “utterly appalling” in a post on X, adding: “Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain. Thank you to Shomrim, Hatzola and the police for acting swiftly.
“Those responsible will be brought to justice.”
Home secretary Shabana Mahmood said her “thoughts” are with the victims of what she described as an “abhorrent attack” and the Jewish community.
She also vowed that the Government will “strain every sinew” to keep Jewish people safe following the terror attack, adding: “We are already taking a large amount of action on security, on policing and on funding for protective security as well.
“We will go further as this situation develops and I will make sure that we are doing everything that we possibly can.”
