The Chicago Snowballs baseball team will not be making their official debut this weekend, but the team is still going to take the field later in May.
The Snowballs, who are billing themselves as pro baseball’s first co-ed “sportstainment experience,” were scheduled to play their debut series beginning on Friday at Kerry Wood Field in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood, but their first games will have to wait.
According to the team, severe weather has impacted preparations for the upcoming season, and as a result the team will need to move its debut date until later in the month of May.
The debut is now set for Thursday, May 28 when the Snowballs take the field at Curtis Granderson Stadium, the home of the University of Illinois-Chicago baseball team.
They’ll then play again the following day at Wintrust Field, the home of the Schaumburg Boomers’ minor league baseball team.
Tickets are available to the Schaumburg game. Fans can sign up for an access code to the UIC game on the Snowballs’ website.
“We’re inspired by the Savannah Bananas and the Harlem Globetrotters,” co-founder Cherie Travis told NBC 5’s Natalie Martinez. “We wanna have a fun program that brings people together.”
