Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Ildemaro Vargas won the National League Player of the Week (April 20-26), earning leaguewide recognition for his best stretch as a big leaguer.
Vargas, a 34-year-old veteran in his 10th major league season, won the weekly honor for the first time.
In five games played this past week, Vargas clubbed four home runs with a double and a triple, driving in an MLB-high 12 runs and producing an OPS of 1.409. No one in the NL hit as many home runs in the past week as Vargas, who entered the season with a career high of six (which he has now matched).
