UNC used a strong run in the first quarter to seize momentum against Stanford Sunday in Charlotte and held firm to win 12-8, clinching the Tar Heels’ second consecutive ACC Tournament title and ninth in program history.

The Cardinal had led 2-0 after a pair of early goals, but that lead lasted barely a minute as Addison Pattillo and Chloe Humphrey both netted goals in a span of 30 seconds to tie the game at 2-2. Pattillo scored again later in the quarter to give UNC a lead it would not relinquish.
After Stanford’s first two goals came just 3:15 into the game, the Cardinal would score only three more times across the next 40:46 as UNC slowly but surely grew the lead. Humphrey’s fourth goal of the game at the 7:55 mark of the third quarter put the Tar Heels up 11-5, their largest advantage of the game.
Stanford’s last push saw the Cardinal score three consecutive goals to cut that deficit to 11-8 midway through the fourth quarter, but they would not have another shot on target after that eighth goal. UNC’s Kate Levy, daughter of head coach Jenny Levy, scored the Tar Heels’ final goal of the game.
Humphrey’s four goals on the day gives her 92 on the season, breaking her own school record of 90 set last year. The redshirt sophomore has scored at least four goals in each of the Tar Heels’ last nine games, a streak which has lasted more than a month.
Carolina is now 16-1 overall, having won seven consecutive games. When including this past week’s conference tournament, the Tar Heels are a perfect 13-0 against ACC foes in 2026 and have won 22 consecutive conference games. UNC will now await its NCAA Tournament bid, which will be announced May 3.
