Two beaches along the Silver Strand were reopened this weekend after being closed due to contaminated water, the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality reported.
Silver Strand Shoreline and the beach at Avenida Lunar in Coronado were opened Saturday after recent water quality samples met state health standards.
Advisories remain in effect for several other local beaches including Glorietta Bay Park Shoreline in Coronado, San Diego River Outlet at Dog Beach in Ocean Beach, North Cove – Vacation Isle, Fanuel Park, Santa Clara Cove, Mission Point Park, and De Anza Cove in Mission Bay, San Dieguito River Outlet in Del Mar, La Jolla Children’s Pool and Harbor Beach in Oceanside.
Beachgoers were advised that bacteria levels have exceeded state health standards and may cause illness, according to the DEHQ.
Additionally, the ocean shoreline from the International Border through the Imperial Beach Pier at Carnation Avenue in Imperial Beach will remain closed until sampling confirms those areas are safe for water contact, the DEHQ said.
“The public is advised to avoid water contact as the water is impacted by sewage and may cause illness,” officials said.
