Minister of Justice Mahmoud Helmyal-Sherif held talks on Sunday,  April 19, 2026, with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support Elizabeth Spehar on cooperation in rule of law and peacebuilding.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a UN-related gathering in Cairo on justice institutions in peacekeeping missions.

El Sherif said that the ministry is working to prepare judges for international missions and update a national database of qualified judicial experts in line with international standards. He added that Egypt continues to share legal expertise with developing countries.

The minister also said efforts are ongoing to expand women’s participation in the judiciary and include them in international assignments.

For her part, Spehar said that Egypt’s judicial experience supports UN peace efforts and expressed interest in further cooperation.

Both sides agreed to expand cooperation through training programs, technical exchange, and work in areas such as financial and cybercrime.
