At the age of 17, Theodora Taylor surged to a new lifetime best to win silver in the women’s 50 freestyle in 24.59 at the 2026 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships in London, breaking her own Welsh record of 24.72, and clipping the British 17-year-old record that Francesca Halsall previously held since 2008 in 24.72.
Taylor’s time also makes her the 7th-fastest 17-year-old performer in the history of the 50 freestyle.

Just over a month earlier, she finished 2nd in this race at the European Junior Championships in 25.12.
Her performance here also moves her up to 12th in the world this season. As the winner of the 50 free, Eva Okaro, the Texas freshman, now sits 8th in the world at 24.42.
Taylor scratched the 100 breaststroke this evening in favor of the 50 free, having finished 5th in this morning’s 100 breast prelims in 1:08.24.
This also marks the 2nd Welsh record Taylor has captured this week, after besting the 200 IM mark yesterday in 2:13.35. She also notched a pair of British Age Group records earlier in the meet, clocking 26.46 in the 50 fly (2nd fastest Welsh swimmer ever) and 1:58.31 in the 200 free.
