The penultimate night of the 2026 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships got off to a strong start, with 24-year-old Keanna MacInnes resetting her own Scottish Record in the women’s 100m butterfly.

MacInnes led the race from start to finish, clocking 57.57 to win over Claira Schlosshan (58.41) and Lucy Grieve (58.56). MacInnes’ time sliced exactly a tenth off her previous Scottish standard of 57.67 put on the books at the 2025 World Championships.

She opened in 26.79 through the opening 50, the only swimmer under 27, which put her 0.31 under her former record pace. She closed slightly slower, 30.78 to 30.57, but her early speed gave her a big enough cushion to dip under her former mark.

She remains GBR’s 5th-fastest woman in history.

Ellen Gandy – 57.25, 2012 Francesca Halsall – 57.40, 2010 Jemma Jarvis – 57.43, 2011 Siobhan-Marie O’Connor – 57.45, 2014 Keanna MacInnes – 57.57, 2026

MacInnes has steadily improved each year since first breaking the Scottish Record in 2021 with a time of 58.78.

When asked about the swim post-race, MacInnes said she didn’t know what to expect, but was happy to edge closer to Ellen Gandy‘s long-standing 57.25 British Record.

“With the 100, I never really know what to expect going in because in season it feels completely different to what it feels like when I’m tapered,” she said. “Taking small amounts off is really good, and I just want to keep edging toward that British record, hopefully.”

Asked about her process heading into the race, she pointed to a technical adjustment made in the weeks leading up to the meet as a key factor.

“Just a few weeks ago, leading into Edinburgh, I made a little bit of a technical change, so I’ve just been working on that,” she said.

MacInnes’ title tonight represents her second of the week, having won the 200m fly (2:07.02) in her second-fastest time on Tuesday. That swim had already booked her ticket to both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. She holds the Scottish Record in that distance too, courtesy of the 2:06.93 she swam at the AP Race Meet last May.

She has been a mainstay in British butterfly over the past four seasons; she’s won three straight national titles in the 200m fly and claimed gold in the 100m fly in three of the last four years.

MacInnes made her international debut at the 2022 European Championships, where she touched sixth in the 200m fly (2:08.90) and seventh in the 100m fly (58.68) before going on to win gold in the 100m fly (58.48) and silver in the 200m fly (2:09.73) at the inaugural U23 Swimming Championships. She also placed 20th in the 100m fly (59.30) at the 2023 World Championships.

At the Paris Olympics, MacInnes clocked then-best times of 2:08.04 and 57.90 to finish ninth in the 200m fly and 16th in the 100m fly, while also helping the GB squad take 10th in the 4x100m medley relay. At Worlds last July, she swam to 12th in the 100m fly with her former Scottish Record and 16th in the 200m fly (2:11.18).
