The Arizona Diamondbacks got RBI singles in the eighth inning from Jose Fernandez and Adrian Del Castillo to tie the game and take the lead in a back-and-forth affair Sunday, as they took the series from the Philadelphia Phillies on a 4-3 win.
The Diamondbacks trailed by one run entering the eighth, and Corbin Carroll got the activity started early as he hurried to an infield single. Geraldo Perdomo attempted to bunt Carroll over to second, but the fielder’s choice got Carroll out instead.
Fernandez then reached out to put a ball into the grass in left field, scoring Perdomo. Ketel Marte came off the bench and was walked, leading to Del Castillo getting his own opportunity off the bench and singling to score Fernandez.

In the bottom half of the eighth, Arizona’s defense was in a jam after Kevin Ginkel gave up a four-pitch walk and a single four pitches later to put runners on the corners with no outs.
Ginkel got a strikeout before Ryan Thompson entered and got outs two and three on an Adolis Garcia pop-out and Brandon Marsh, who wasn’t back to first in time on the pop.
Paul Sewald then struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning on 11 pitches to get his fifth save of the season in his fifth opportunity.
Zac Gallen sees otherwise strong start come apart in 6th inning
Zac Gallen had sat down 10 straight batters going into the sixth inning, but the four straight extra-base hits he then surrendered brought on the first lead change.

His line finished at three earned runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts across five innings (84 pitches) to bump his ERA up from 3.00 to 3.60.
The 2-0 lead held by the Diamondbacks came on a James McCann double in the second inning and a Nolan Arenado sacrifice fly in the sixth.
