2026 Arena Elite Championships & National Selection
April 7 – 12, 2026 Boca del Río, Veracruz, Mexico 50 meter (LCM) Results: “Selectivo 2026” on Meet Mobile First Half RecapMexico’s 2026 national selection meet ended on a high note with rising star Daniela Linares Danzos throwing down a national record in the women’s 200 back. Linares Danzos, who just turned 16, unleashed a 2:10.72 in the ultimate session to down a 14-year-old mark previously held by Fernanda Gonzalez at 2:10.75. The budding star took her swim out in 1:04.44 before coming home in 1:06.28. Her previous best stood at 2:11.14 from the Westmont PSS last month.
Linares Danzos trains with the Pleasanton Seahawks in California. As a member of USA Swimming, this time puts her #2 among 15-16 girls this season, only trailing Audrey Derivaux‘s 2:08.61 with nearly another entire year in the age group.
With Linares Danzos’ new 200 record last night, all three Mexican women’s backstroke records have been broken in the last 365 days by different women in each distance. Celia Pulido tied her own 50 back national record in the first half of the meet, and Miranda Grana broke the 100 back record at this meet last year.
Moreover, there seems to be at least one more strong Mexican female backstroker coming through the pipeline. 14-year-old Fernanda Garcia Caldera also turned heads at this meet with a 29.02/1:02.97 in the short backstrokes earlier in the meet. Both of these times rank her as the #1 North American among 13-14 girls this season. She also delivered a 27.37 in the 50 fly, which also tops the North American age group list.
On the senior side of things, Pulido finished her meet strong with a new best time of 1:00.25 to win the 100 backstroke, upsetting national record holder Grana. Pulido also delivered a 26.70 50 fly victory.
Marcus Reyes-Gentry continued to breathe down the neck of his best times. He won the 100 back with a 54.17, slightly off his 54.04 national record, before going head-to-head with Andres Dupont in the 50 fly. Dupont emerged on top by the smallest of margins, delivering a 24.26 to Reyes-Gentry’s 24.27. Dupont doubled up later in the final session with a 1:50.62 title in the 200 free. Ava Chavez made strides towards becoming the 2nd Mexican woman under 2:00 in the women’s 200 free, posting a new lifetime best of 2:00.54.
