The Chicago Bulls are clearing out their front office.
Executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas and general manager Marc Eversley were both fired effective immediately, the team announced Monday.
Chicago went 224-254 since hiring Karnišovas and Eversley in 2020, with one playoff appearance back in 2022. The Bulls are 29-49 with four games left this season, already clinching their worst winning percentage since 2019-20.
Bulls CEO and president Michael Reinsdorf made the decision, citing a desire to build a team that can “ultimately contend for championships.”
“Artūras and Marc have led with a deep commitment to the Chicago Bulls,” Reisndorf said in a statement. “These decisions are never easy, especially when they involve people we respect both personally and professionally. The Bulls have struggled to put together a competitive team over the past decade, making just one playoff trip in the last nine years. Before that, the team made the postseason in 11 of 13 years.
Despite not making many playoff runs, Chicago hasn’t been fortunate in the draft lottery. The team has been just good enough to make the play-in or barely miss the playoffs, which makes it difficult to get a top talent in the draft.
It’s unclear at this time what Karnišovas and Eversley’s firings mean for head coach Billy Donovan, who has led the Bulls since 2020.
