Davis didn’t take long to mention Leachman, who guest-starred as Maxwell Sheffield‘s childhood nanny, Clara Mueller.
“I was a huge fan of Cloris Leachman. She’s a brilliant actress. And so she arrived and I’m telling her about all the things that I loved her in and blah, blah, blah,” Davis said to an audience at ’90s Con 2026 in Hartford, CT, on Oct. 17, PEOPLE reported. He went on to explain that they were getting ready to film a scene around a dining room table when Leachman had to use the restroom.
“We were just about ready to shoot. And she says, ‘Where’s the ladies’ room?’ And the ladies room was way down the hallway outside of the studio. So they opened the door to show her where it was and she said, ‘I’m not going there.’ She turned to our prop man and said, ‘Bring me a bucket,’ ” Davis continued.
Shock immediately filled the room as a prop man found a bucket and handed it to the legendary actress.
“She took the bucket and went behind the dining room set and had a pee in the bucket. And the whole cast is sitting at the dining table, hearing ‘tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,’ ” he laughed. “And she walks out from behind, carrying the bucket and she tries to give it to the prop man. He said, ‘I’m not taking it.’ And she said, ‘Well, what do you want me to do with it?’ He said, ‘You don’t want me to tell you.’ ”
The Nanny followed the life of character Fran Fine, played by Fran Drescher, after she gets an unexpected job as a nanny to a wealthy widower’s three children. It is one of many shows and films included in the long filmography of Leachman, who died in 2021. The nine-time Emmy Award-winning star was well known for her versatile and expressive acting and left a legacy that can’t be matched with roles in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Phyllis, Malcolm in the Middle, Young Frankenstein, The Last Picture Show, The Croods and more.
