Let’s Play Two, Outfield Mix, I-Cubs Muscle, Steele A Step Closer, and Other Cubs Bullets ...Middle East

Good morning, Bleacher Nation. And Happy Easter!

Well, if we were going to handpick a day on the schedule to have a Cubs game postponed, the day of the Final Four doubleheader would be a top-five choice for sure. That said, the night game between Michigan and Arizona didn’t keep my attention for the full 40 minutes, given the Wolverines’ dominance. UCONN is a fierce opponent, but Michigan looks unstoppable, so I’m picking them Monday night.

ponement of yesterday’s game gives us the gift of an Easter Sunday doubleheader, and despite there being no game yesterday, there’s plenty to get to in the bullets.

Game 1 today is a 12:05 first pitch as originally scheduled, with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the first. The Cubs have announced a switch with their starting pitchers, as Edward Cabrera starts game one and Shota Imanaga starts game two. Meanwhile, Cleveland will counter with Slade Cecconi in game one and lefty Parker Messick in game two.

Cubs pitching matchup notes, Game 1 of the Double Header:Chicago Cubs: Edward Cabrera, RHPIn terms of results, Edward Cabrera's first start of the season really couldn't have gone much better. He held the Angels scoreless over six innings, allowing just one hit and one walk…

— Michael Cerami (@Michael_Cerami) April 5, 2026 Likewise, the Cubs had a trio of roster moves before today’s action begins, including Cade Horton to the IL, Riley Martin getting called up, and Ethan Roberts as the 27th man for the doubleheader. More on that here. On another note, when it comes to today’s doubleheader, is today the day Dylan Carlson gets his first start? In my baseball-watching life, I feel like managers have always made a point to give their bench guys a start early in the regular season, but here we sit seven games in, and Carlson has yet to even pinch hit, pinch run, or sub in for defense. Michael Conforto is hitless in six at-bats (with not great ‘eye test’ grades), Matt Shaw still looks like the newbie he is in the outfield, and even when Seiya returns from injury, he’s likely to DH against left-handers. At Triple-A, Kevin Alcantara and Chas McCormick are playing well, but it’s still too early for any hindsight to have come into focus. All that said, the options available have me hoping no one in this group of fourth outfielders gets an undeserved leash.

— Aldo Soto (@AldoSoto21) April 1, 2026 Speaking of Kevin Alcantara, he obliterated his third homerun of the season yesterday in the I-Cubs 8-6 win over Louisville, sending it 440 feet at 110.2 mph. BJ Murray Jr. and Pedro Ramirez also hit their third home runs of the season for the I-Cubs yesterday, and in case you missed it, Michael had them all nicely put together for your viewing pleasure.

— Iowa Cubs (@IowaCubs) April 5, 2026 While we anxiously await results from Cade Horton’s MRI and the subsequent diagnosis, we’re treated to another positive Justin Steele rehab update, and I’m left wondering when his return timeline becomes more defined.

— Rich Biesterfeld (@biest22) April 4, 2026 While the Iowa Cubs bash homerun-after-homerun, the Chicago Cubs — according to the data — are doing the right things themselves at the plate, even if the results haven’t paid off quite yet like they should.

— Thomas Nestico (@TJStats) April 4, 2026 Alex Bregman has been the poster boy for the Cubs, who have hit into a healthy share of bad luck to start the season. Despite the bad luck, though, the veteran third baseman has fortunately not expanded his zone.

— RushingBaseball (@RushingBaseball) April 4, 2026 Angels outfielder Joe Adell did something last night I can’t recall ever seeing in my lifetime of watching baseball, robbing not one, but three home runs! All broken down for you here:

Jo Adell had one of the most legendary nights EVER, robbing not one, not two, but THREE home runs in a single game. What other single game defensive performance even comes close?
