Chicago forecast: More chances for rain, storms and severe weather ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Daily chances for rain, storms and even severe weather continue for the Chicago area this week and into the weekend, but what you see and when will depend on where you live, the NBC 5 Storm Team said.

The forecast comes after multiple severe thunderstorm watches and warnings Tuesday, with O’Hare and Midway Airports issuing ground stops at times.

Early Wednesday morning, Live Doppler 5 radar showed rain across LaSalle, Will and Kankakee Counties in Illinois and into northwest Indiana. Across the Chicago area, winds were gusting as high as 25 mph.

“The heaviest stuff is staying south of Kankakee,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said. “This is all part of a larger system moving across southern Illinois and Indiana.”

Showers and storms in those parts are expected to continue through at least 8 a.m., while other parts will remain mostly dry.

“Some of our northern counties wont see a lick of rain today, at least daytime hours,” Roman said.

Wednesday evening and through the overnight hours however, widespread rain was expected.

“By 10 p.m., we’ll see some rain moving in, maybe even an isolated thunderstorm,” Roman said. Rain was expected to last through Thursday morning, making for a wet and soggy commute.

More scattered showers and storms were possible throughout the day Thursday, especially during the afternoon and evening, and some could be strong or even severe.

According to Roman, storm chances return starting about 3 p.m. At that time and through the evening, the entire Chicago area will be under a “slight” risk of severe weather, which ranks as level two of five.

“All severe hazards will be possible, along with heavy rainfall which could lead to localized flooding,” the National Weather Service warned, including hail and gusty winds.

Rising and falling temperatures

Temperatures Wednesday will be chillier, with highs in the low 40s to low 50s. Temperatures will rise overnight and increase Thursday, reaching into the upper 60s to near 70.

Temperatures will remains in the 60s Friday and Saturday, Roman said, dipping back down into the 50s for Sunday and the start of next week.
