ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rep. Joe Morelle is calling attention to rising costs for working families, warning that recent decisions in Washington are making the affordability crisis worse.
Morelle held a press conference in Rochester Monday, pointing to higher prices for essentials like food, gas and housing across Western New York. He said President Donald Trump’s war with Iran is driving up costs at home, with disrupted energy markets and billions spent overseas.
“A trip to the grocery store becomes a calculation. Can I afford that? What can wait until next week when I’m here? What do I need to put back? And those choices ripple outward,” Morelle said.
Addressing reporters earlier this month, House Speaker Mike Johnson said many of the current economic pressures are connected with the Iran conflict. He added that reopening the Strait of Hormuz will help Americans get economic relief.
Morelle says Democrats will continue to push for more support for families during the upcoming federal budget process.
