Tucker Robs a Homer, Freeman Hugs Himself Out, McGuire’s 7 SBs, Cam Smith Great Play, Other MLB Wildness ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Last night was an absurdly busy (funny, notable, exciting) night of baseball. Patrick Flowers already covered some of the meatier stuff in a post at Bleacher Nation this morning, including infamous umpire CB Bucknor’s long-awaited confrontation with ABS (yikes! that was embarrassing). But there were even more crazy and funny things left on the cutting room floor.

So we’re going to hit some of these bullet style, because I just think you’ll want to see all of this before we do it all over again today.

Kyle Tucker robbed a home run last night, though I’ll warn you: Because of the short wall and his post-catch demeanor, you might find this to be the most boring home run robbery of all time. Which is right on brand, as we know.

— MLB (@MLB) March 29, 2026 Even MLB’s tweet is boring. No caps or punctuation. Just one emoji. Lol. It’s just so perfect for Kyle Tucker. For what it’s worth, Statcast had that as a homer in 22/30 ballparks. Speaking of former Cub Kyle Tucker … the primary player traded to the Astros in exchange for Tucker, Cam Smith, had one HELL of a catch in right field last night. This is not boring at all. But to appreciate it, you’ll have to be mindful of how incredibly far he runs before the ball actually hits his mitt.

— MLB (@MLB) March 29, 2026 That is an extremely impressive rundown there, especially for a guy who was a third baseman throughout his career before being traded to Houston. Although, hey, now that I think about it, Matt Shaw (the third baseman the Cubs chose to keep instead of Smith) is also out in right field now. Funny how that works. Freddie Freeman is always involved in funny plays on the bases. Last night, he hugged himself out voluntarily … which is the sort of outcome that only happens in a whimsical sport like baseball.

— Michael Cerami (@Michael_Cerami) March 29, 2026 Patrick covered a couple of the big walk-offs and comebacks from yesterday’s slate of MLB games. But did you see Dom Smith hit a walk-off grand slam with a full count and one out in the ninth?

— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) March 29, 2026 The only way that’d be better is if there were two outs and the Braves were down by three. That’s the ULTIMATE dream. Well, that and put it in Game 7 of the World Series. There’s not more ultimate walkoff than that. I think Jake Burger probably had a hard time falling asleep last night …

— Talkin' Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) March 28, 2026 … Fortunately, his team picked him up by scoring two runs in the 10th inning to reclaim the lead and ultimately win the game. Of course, he also struck out in that inning. So. Yeah. Not his best day at the ballpark. He did homer earlier, though, so maybe it all evens out. Actually, now that I think about it, we don’t have to guess. We have stats for this, and according to the win probability data, Burger helped his team win more than he caused a loss yesterday. Still, can’t imagine those last few plays were fun. Did you see this absolutely BONKERS play from Nationals shortstop Nasim Nuñez to get Michael Busch yesterday? Genuinely one of the most impressive plays I’ve seen in a while.

— Talkin' Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) March 28, 2026 Michael Busch got the last laugh, though, starting a sweet and slick game-ending double play not too long after:

— Aldo Soto (@AldoSoto21) March 28, 2026 The Brewers stole SEVEN bases on former Cubs catcher Reese McGuire last night, which … woof. I don’t remember him having such a hard time with base stealers last year, but I guess he threw out only eight on 31 attempts.

— Underdog MLB (@UnderdogMLB) March 29, 2026 People are really ragging on Roman Anthony for his noodle arm in this Reds walkoff, but I … no, yeah, that was a weak-ass throw with the game on the line:
