Wrigley Field: Where the Crowd is Simply Too Loud ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

You know how part of the home-field advantage in football is that the noise the crowd makes can create difficulties for opposing offenses in changing plays at the line? Hard to audible verbally when your teammates literally cannot hear you.

I don’t know that we’ll ever see EXACTLY the same thing in baseball, but we do know that there is a small home-field advantage in the sport for a variety of reasons, and we also know that some players just love the feel of being in a park with a bunch of loud, rowdy, raucous fans cheering them on.

Anyway, here’s a feather in the cap of the Wrigley Field faithful, where the fans were so loud today early in the Cubs win that they caused the home plate umpire to mistakenly believe he heard the Nationals catcher calling for a challenge:

“Crowd is too damn loud”Ump thought the catcher was challenging. Catcher said he didn't challenge, but he should have pic.twitter.com/EKGItH7gBl

Wrigley Field: Where the crowd is too damn loud.

Heck yes. Print the flyers.

As for the play there, the funny thing is, the catcher actually SHOULD have challenged the ball call, because pitch 4 there was clearly a strike:

Maybe the Cubs fans in attendance threw the catcher off, too!
