Bol Bowen shines in NCAA first-round win ...Middle East

News by : (The Crimson White) -

Alabama forward Taylor Bol Bowen notched his second-highest scoring output of the season in the team’s 90-70 triumph over 13-seed Hofstra in the NCAA tournament on Friday.

Bol Bowen scored 15 points on 6/9 shooting and 3/5 from beyond the arc, and he recorded three blocks. The effort was the former Florida State transfer’s best since the Crimson Tide’s 103-96 win over St. John’s in November, when he scored 17 points on 6/7 shooting and grabbed 9 rebounds.

It was also his first double-digit output since the team’s 100-75 win over Mississippi State on Feb. 25. Bol Bowen dealt with injuries during conference play, including a right leg injury and a hand injury.

“I’m super proud of Taylor,” head coach Nate Oats said postgame. “He’s gone through a lot this year with all these injuries. At different points, [he] got frustrated. He’s locked in for the last month.”

Bol Bowen was a key piece of the Crimson Tide’s rotation during non-conference play, in which he averaged 9.3 points per game and recorded six double-digit games. Now, with the season on the line, it appears the junior is finding his stride once again.

“I think he’s worried about playing hard, the right stuff,” Oats said.

Alabama will continue its March Madness run on Sunday, when it meets the 5-seed Texas Tech Red Raiders. Tipoff has not yet been announced.
