ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Muslims in the Rochester area will mark the end of a month of fasting for Ramadan on Friday with Eid al-Fitr, known as the “festival of breaking the fast.”
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, amid one of the most important times in the Islamic lunar calendar. The Dome Arena on East Henrietta Road is holding two services to mark Eid al-Fitr, one starting at 8 a.m. and the other at 9:30 a.m. Around 6,000 people are expected to attend.
There will also be a celebration at the Baitun Naseer Mosque on East Main Street starting at 11 a.m. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is hosting the celebration, which will feature prayer, festivities, and charitable giving.
In addition to fasting, Ramadan is a time of prayer and reflection for Muslims.
