2026 MD LSC 14 & U Championships

March 5–8, 2026 Michael P. O’Brien Athletics & Recreation Center, St. Mary’s City, MD SCY (25 yards) “2026 MD LSC 14 & U Championships ” on Meet Mobile

North Baltimore Aquatic Club had a stellar showing at the Maryland 14 & Under Championships earlier this month. Among those strong showings were Philip Scharper, 11, and Jude Burkhart, 14, who each turned in several career-best times in St. Mary’s City.

Scharper came away from the meet with eight best times; among them was the 400 IM, where he shaved just under six seconds off his former best of 4:45.73 in November to finish with the 3rd-fastest time overall here in 4:39.77. His teammate Henry Knott, 12, took over 10 seconds off of his best time to take the event win in 4:33.19.

Scharper added a 2nd place finish in the 200 backstroke, taking over four seconds off of his former best time to touch in 2:10.15. That swim earned him a runner-up finish, only behind Ocean Pines’ Patrick Murphy, 12, in 2:05.95. Murphy collected six individual wins at the meet.

On top of those performances, the 11-year-old Scharper swam lifetime bests in the 200 free (1:59.40), 500 free (5:16.49), 50 back (28.97), 100 back (1:01.22), 200 fly (2:16.53), and the 200 IM (2:14.16).

Burkhart, 14, was untouchable at this meet, ending with a perfect nine-for-nine with nine wins, including nine different career best swims.

The now 14-year-old Burkhart is the 11-12 National Age Group Record Holder in the 1650 free. Here, he swam a lifetime best of 15:35.98, a time that moves him up to a tie for the 38th fastest 13-14 age group performer in history. His fastest time before this swim came at the ISCA East Coast Elite Showcase in April of 2025 in 15:49.26.

He also notched his fastest ever 1000 free, climbing up to #52 all time in the 13-14 age group with a five and a half second drop in 9:21.90. He also saw a major drop in his 200 IM, where he took about a second and a half off of his best time of 1:54.33 from last January in 1:52.88.

Burkart took wins in each freestyle event from the 100 free through the 1650, swimming career bests in each, touching in 47.04 in the 100 free, 1:41.09 in the 200 free, and 4:34.16 in the 500 free.

Other notable performances:

Bayside Aquatics’ Alyna Cox, 10, won 10 events on the week, highlighting her performances were the sprint backstroke events, winning both the 50 and 100 backstrokes. She clocked 29.43 in the 50 back to move her up to the 42nd fastest 10 and under performer in history. She also touched in 1:04.36 to take the 100 back, a time that put her just a tenth of a second outside of the top 100 10 and under performers ever. NBAC’s Willa Kulp, 14, earned 12 wins on the week, including a career best in the 500 free, touching in 4:55.79, besting her former best of 4:57.82 from the NBAC Christmas meet in December. She also took nearly two seconds off of her previous 100 back best time (58.68) to take the win here in 56.69.
