This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Pat Richardson.
Richardson is the founder of the Monet Richardson Community Foundation. The MRCF is named after Pat’s daughter Krissy, a hometown hero in her own right, who launched a program with the YMCA to provide backpacks and school supplies to kids in need. Krissy tragically died in a car accident in 2021, but in that time of grieving, Richardson made the decision to make Krissy’s efforts hero and just three months later, the Monet Richardson Community Foundation was born. It started with a single fundraiser 5K and it has only grown from there. They have continued Krissy’s backpack program and in the 5 years since their founding, they have started a scholarship in Krissy’s name that ensures kids in East Chapel Hill High School’s avid prep program who need financial support are able to go to college.
