I Went to Disney California Adventure's Popular Food & Wine Festival—and This $9 Item Was the Only Must-Buy ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

If you love rollercoasters, good food, and meeting Mickey and friends, you'll want to make a reservation at the park and grab a Sip and Savor Pass. They're available in four- or eight-item options, priced at $34 and $63, respectively, including tax. You'll need to do a bit of math to get items that make the pass worthwhile, but ultimately, your palate will lead the way. Here's what I tried and the item that pleasantly surprised me.

11 Food & Wine Festival Bites I Tried at Disney California Adventure

1. Asa'Dos ($10)

Fred Hernandez

Eat them as is or use the accompanying corn tortillas to make yourself a taco. The Spanish rice rounds out this item, and the salsa verde adds a bright, spicy, tangy element.

2. Bourbon Peach Tea Lemonade ($18)

Fred Hernandez

It's made with Ceylon black tea-infused bourbon, Simply Lemonade, Simply Fruit Punch, peach purée and garnished with a peach ring. Grab this one at Joffrey's Coffee & Tea Co. right by Pixar Pier.

3. Torta Ahogada ($9.25)

Fred Hernandez

Since it's "ahogada," it's drowned in a spicy red tomato and chili sauce, which makes it a bit messy to eat, but that's part of the fun. My only complaint? I wish it were bigger, but you can grab a couple (or more) with your Sip and Savor pass.

4. Cherry Cola Cold Brew ($7.75)

Fred Hernandez

Take your first sip right away to get a good taste of that cherry cold foam, and then mix (or not) to give the coffee an extra cherry note on top of the syrup. While I don't usually go for cold brew, this one was delicious, creamy and subtly sweet.

5. Chicken and Waffle Mole Taco ($7.99)

Fred Hernandez

For some reason, I was expecting a fluffier waffle. It was more akin to an ice cream cone waffle, but softer. Although the taco was a bit smaller than I expected, I thoroughly enjoyed the few bites I did have. Grab this one at Studio Catering Co. inside Hollywood Land.

6. Mickey-Shaped Macaron made with Snickers Bar Pieces ($9)

Fred Hernandez

This one's a fan favorite that people wait for all year to try again and again. While the Sip and Savor portion was surprisingly big enough for one person, you wouldn't be the first to eat multiple of these in one visit.

7. Sirloin Gruyére Mac & Cheese ($9.50)

Fred Hernandez

The sirloin pieces were a bit too thick, but overall very tasty and not too spicy (if you're worried about that), especially with the slightly sweet and nutty gruyére cheese. The mix of flavors and textures was on point and worthy of one of your Sip and Savor selections.

8. Chicharrón Nachos ($9)

Fred Hernandez

If you're not a fan of soggy chicharones (which I am), you'll want to eat this one sooner rather than later to avoid the cheese sauce and salsa soaking into them. Don't forget to shake it up before you take a bite, to get an even coating of flavors.

9. Tajín Habanero Seasoned Wings ($9.50)

Fred Hernandez

It's quite messy, and you'll need a few napkins to keep the sauce off your fingers and clothes, but it's worth it if you're a fan of spicy wings. Order this one at the Peppers Cali-Ente marketplace.

10. Ramen Mac & Cheese ($9.25)

Fred Hernandez

The ramen twist is the furikake crumble, green onions, fish cake and chili crunch served on the side. The chili crunch adds a spicy, salty boost. If you're a fan of heat, you'll end up using the entire portion. This item can be found at the Peppers Cali-Ente marketplace.

My Must-Buy Pick

11. Café de Olla Tres Leches Cake ($8.25)

Fred Hernandez

This dessert had the ideal balance of piloncillo chantilly and a perfectly moist cake. The warming spices gave it a subtle kick that made me want to keep going in for more. Let's just say I had more than one of these cakes. It's topped with cinnamon and a Mickey-shaped cookie, making it appealing on looks alone.
