Nahshon Wright has parlayed his Pro Bowl season with the Chicago Bears into a hearty pay raise.
Sure, it is with the New York Jets. But getting a pay bump of more than $4 million from one year to the next is nothing to sneeze at for the 27-year-old cornerback.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 10, 2026REPORT: Nahshon Wright Leaves the Bears after Pro Bowl season
On the one hand, I am not surprised that Nahshon Wright is leaving for greener pastures. One year after signing a one-year deal with the Bears last spring that was essentially an afterthought in most circles, Wright finds himself getting up to $5.5 million in a one-year deal with the Jets. But on the other hand, I am surprised that Wright didn’t get a multi-year deal. That he is left to settle for a one-year deal worth a maximum of $5.5 million falls well short of what I was thinking he would get in the open market.
NEW BEARS SIGNINGS: Bush | Bryant | Gallimore | Raymond
Earlier in the offseason, The Athletic’s projections forecasted Wright would get a three-year deal worth $40.5 million. A deal worth $13.5 million annually was the type of thing I was expecting to see attached to Nahshon Wright’s name when free agency opened. That he lands in New York with the Jets on a deal worth up to $5.5 million is the type of modest price that I thought the Bears could bring him back on for a second season. Remember, Wright made it known that he was open to a return. It’s not as if the team doesn’t need a starting cornerback spot opposite Jaylon Johnson.
2026 NFL DRAFT: FALL OUT FROM DAY 1 OF FREE AGENCY
Perhaps teams thought his 2025 campaign was fluky. I can imagine teams struggling to dish out a big payday to a player with limited success. However, I thought that a season in which Wright started 16 games and set career highs in interceptions, passes defended, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, total tackles, tackles-for-loss, and every other notable category you could think of would have netted him a bigger contract with a new team. Don’t get it twisted. I’m happy for Wright. And yet, I am disappointed for him that he didn’t get more in free agency. But more than anything, I feel bad that he has to join the Jets. Tough break, young fella. Good luck in The Big Apple.
