The Blackhawks have a limited number of prospects playing college hockey this season, but all of the skaters happen to be playing in the same conference. John Mustard and Julius Sumpf (Providence), Václav Nestrašil (UMass) and Sacha Boisvert (Boston University) are all in Hockey East, which means their conference tournament should have our attention for a number of reasons.
The most immediate reason for intrigue: if Boston University gets bounced early, and doesn’t get an NCAA tournament bid, Boisvert could turn pro fairly quickly. Ben Pope wrote the plan is still for Boisvert to sign with the Blackhawks when his season ends. And, entering the Hockey East Tournament, Boston University is well outside the top 16 in the NPI Rankings (they’re 24th)
