Not too long after watching Nahshon Wright leave for the New York Jets, the Chicago Bears are reportedly set to sign Buffalo Bills defensive back Cameron Lewis.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports (via Twitter/X) that Lewis is the newest addition to a Bears defense that has been getting injected with a hot dose of fresh faces since the NFL’s early negotiation period for free agency opened at 11 a.m. on Monday. Since then, the Bears have agreed to deals with a rotational interior defensive lineman, a linebacker coming off a career year, and a Super Bowl-winning safety.
NEW BEARS SIGNINGS: Bush | Bryant | Gallimore | Raymond
It’s been busy around these parts, to say the least. Now, we can add an experienced defensive back to the list. So … let’s get to know him a little better

A native of Detroit who played collegiately at Buffalo, Cameron Lewis has played 76 games with the Buffalo Bills. His six-year stint in Buffalo began in 2020 and includes 14 starts along the way. On the surface, Lewis’ signing (once it becomes officially official) adds some much-needed depth at the safety position. Because even after signing Coby Bryant, the Bears still need to replace Kevin Byard III, Elijah Hicks, and Jonathan Owens at the safety spot. Bringing Lewis into the fold brings the Bears one step closer to rounding out the position group.

One thing that stands out about Cameron Lewis is the positional versatility his Pro Football Focus profile suggests he possesses. Lewis played 373 defensive snaps in 2025, spending a majority of his time in the box (170 snaps), in the slot (145), and at free safety (99). He also appeared on 51 percent of Buffalo’s special teams snaps. It feels worth pointing out that Lewis has played on at least 50 percent of the Bills’ special teams snaps in each of the last four seasons.
2026 NFL DRAFT: FALL OUT FROM DAY 1 OF FREE AGENCY
The 2024 season was Cameron Lewis’ most productive since arriving in the NFL. It was in that season in which he played in all 17 games and set career-highs in starts (6), total tackles (68), solo tackles (47), and tackles-for-loss (2). PFF gave Lewis a 66.0 overall grade in 2025, which is part of a five-year stretch in which he has earned a grade of 60 or better four times. At a minimum, this could be a decent depth addition.
