A group of 15-18 boys from SwimAtlanta in Atlanta, Georgia combined to break the National Age Group Record in the 200 yard medley relay on Sunday afternoon.

The team of Collin Holgerson, Camden Cook, Gavin Halusic, and Connor Christopherson combined for a 1:25.63. That knocked three-tenths of a second off the old record of 1:25.94 set by a group from the Nashville Aquatic Club in 2024.

The difference-making splits for SwimAtlanta were USA Swimming Junior National Team member Holgerson on the leadoff and Christopherson on the anchor.

That’s a new personal best in the 50 back for Holgerson, and would have been the 9th-fastest split in the 200 medley relays at last year’s NCAA Championship meet.

Holgerson also won the 100 breast (51.75), 100 fly (46.82), 50 free (20.15), 200 back (1:40.29), and 200 breast (1:53.63) at the meet. The 100 breast, 100 fly, and 200 breast were all lifetime bests for him, with the 200 breast being a 5.8 second improvement in a non-primary stroke for him.

All four swimmers are high school juniors, with Holgerson attending the McCallie School in Chattanooga, though he represents his home club SwimAtlanta in USA Swimming competition.

They are all 17, meaning they also break the 17-18 National Age Group Record, which was the same relay that previously had the 15-18 record. The Mason Manta Rays still hold the 15-16 record in 1:28.85 (Carson Foster, Ian Van Gorp, Jacob McDonald, and Adam Chaney).

While the meet’s proper schedule only had mixed relays, age group coach Michael Mahroum recognized the possibility of the record and coordinated the time trial session.

This is the second 15-18 National Age Group Relay Record set this weekend. Central Ohio Aquatics broke the 200 free relay on Thursday.
