Thousands are expected to take part in a rally and march that will go from Chicago’s Daley Plaza to Trump Tower in honor of International Women’s Day.
A number of groups will be taking part in the event, which is set to get underway Sunday morning with a rally and a series of speakers prior to the march, according to organizers.
The event coincides with International Women’s Day, which is a “global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women,” according to a website coordinating the movement’s efforts.
Following the rally, which gets underway at 11 a.m., a march is planned from Daley Plaza to Trump Tower, where a protest is planned on Sunday afternoon.
Groups plan to protest a number of policies of the Trump administration, calling for protection of reproductive healthcare, rallying against immigration enforcement policies and numerous other measures, according to officials.
The event is one of dozens around the city and suburbs that will coincide with International Women’s Day, which was first observed in 1911.
That list includes a ceremony in Little Village honoring the contributions of Latina women, an International Women’s Day market and events at Gallagher Way near Chicago’s Wrigley Field, and the Sarah Circle’s Annual Winter Walk, benefitting the local organization that aims to end homelessness for women in the Chicago area.
